What does fear sound like? Is it the soft clink of cutlery against porcelain, the slow drip of spilled
juice spreading across a floor, or the sudden silence after a mother’s smile cracks into a scream?
Is it the muffled sobs behind a locked door, the creak of footsteps in the hallway long after
midnight, or the sound of your own breathing—shallow, controlled—so quiet you hope it
disappears?
Fear is not always a roar; sometimes, it is a whisper, a pause,
a lingering glance across a dinner table. It seeps into moments that should be ordinary,
twisting warmth into warning signs and turning a home into a silent battleground.
Our short film HAVEN seeks to amplify the often-silenced voices of survivors of domestic
violence, particularly focusing on the psychological impact on youth. HAVEN is a 10-minute
psychological thriller about two adoptive BIPoC sisters, Tia (15) and Melo (12), who, after years of
enduring their parents' abuse, flee their home—only to find themselves trapped in an abandoned
house where reality blurs as they confront their past. Their bond—shaped by love yet fractured by
trauma—reflects the painful complexities of survival.
